The following one-day cruise to the fascinating country of Albania is available for the more daring who want to try something new. After leaving the port of Corfu, we will travel along the Albanian coast until we reach the port of Ag. Saranda. Once our passports are examined, After our passports have been examined, a local tourist guide will introduce us to the historic city of Ag. Saranda. A 20-kilometer excursion by coach of the south coast's unspoiled shoreline and scattered islands is provided as an additional guided tour. Moving away from the mainland, we pass through little picturesque villages and vast fertile grasslands that lead to a large lake. The journey to Butrint, declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1997, will be the highlight of your day. The ancient town had vanished beneath layers of silt and vegetation over the centuries, but researchers have discovered one of the best relics of a functional town in the Mediterranean. The visitor is transported 2500 years back in time to the 3rd century A.D. at the margin of the lake where the ancient city of Vouthrota is located, with its well-preserved archaeological monuments and ancient theatre. The ancient gymnasium, Roman ablutions, ancient temple with priceless mosaic floor, and massive stone walls will transport you to a time unknown to man. When we reach the top of the hill, we find the castle of Ali Passa, an oddity of the Ottoman Empire; from here, we have a breathtaking view of the Ancient City, the lake, and the vast plains. Lunch will be served upon our return to Ag. Saranda. The afternoon is free for a tour of the town before we depart from the time-trapped land.
