Full day private tour to South Corfu, Lefkimmi, Alykes and Pontiglio Winery
This excursion offers to the traveler the opportunity to admire the beauty of the island's nature, to experience the process oflocal wine, to taste and buy wine and to enjoy the serenity and rest in the village of Lefkimmi.Drive to the south part of Corfu to Lefkimmi about 40 km from Corfu town. Passing through traditional villages we will visit Pontiglio winery founded in Lefkimmi in 2014. Raw material was used from our existing vines. Vines that we cultivated continuously since 1989-1990. Especially Lefkimmi had a centuries - old tradition in the vine and wine. A tradition that goes back to ancient times, that’s why the grape varieties that exist in the area are unique.
Taste the local varieties we already cultivate. Kakotrigis Orange with good results and improvement every year. Kakotrygis sparkling with a second fermentation in the bottle, fits our thoughts about the future. Skopelitiko or Skopolo, black wine grape, very difficult and capricious variety. Continuing our tour we will visit “Alykes”. The area where it is located is the Lefkimmi Salt Flats, a huge area of about 1050 acres where, in addition to the outdoor salt production areas it once had, it included two large Venetian salt warehouses, a third building used as a command post, the ruins of which are preserved until today, the old weighing station, the threshing-floor, where the workers piled the salt, the engine-pump station and the guardhouse from where the guards controlled the area of the salt pans. Today visitor will see in the lagoon birds including among others great cormorants, Eurasian wigeons, great egrets and greater flamingo. Driving through Lefkimmi village we will stop in the location “Potami” where a river is. Time for rest in a cafe next the river. Later we will drive back.
